Based on upcoming trends in Central Illinois As we start a new year and couples who have finally made it to their wedding year let out a big 'whoop whoop', it's time to look and see what weddings in 2025 are shaping up to be. With new trends and timeless classics continuing to dominate the wedding scene, it's always fascinating to see what décor items are capturing the hearts of brides and grooms. What do the 2025 couples like and what is trending right now? Read on to see what the 2025 list of most rented items from Burlap and Lace are - some of these might surprise you! Pipe and Drape Transforming a blank canvas into an elegant, personalized space is one of the top priorities for many couples, and that’s where pipe and drape comes in. Whether it’s creating a dramatic ceremony backdrop, a sleek reception wall, or a luxurious sweetheart table vignette, pipe and drape setups are as versatile as they are stunning. This wedding rental item is particularly popular for indoor venues, helping to cover less-than-ideal walls or add depth to a minimalist aesthetic. And adding some sparkly curtain lights brings a whole new perspective once the lights are turned down low. Charger Plates Who knew something as simple as a charger plate could make such an impact? Couples in 2025 are all about elevating their tablescapes, and chargers are the unsung heroes of this trend. These decorative plates are more than just placeholders; they’re an opportunity to bring color, texture, and personality to the table. Burlap and Lace’s collection includes everything from metallic gold and silver chargers to rustic wood or modern options, making them a must-have for any tablescape. Even when using plastic dinnerware, chargers help to elevate the tablescape. Wood Lanterns Rustic charm never goes out of style, and wood lanterns are proving to be a timeless choice for 2025 weddings. These versatile pieces can be used in so many ways — lining the ceremony aisle, adorning reception tables, or creating a cozy glow for outdoor celebrations. Pair them with LED candles or fresh florals for a dreamy, romantic ambiance that’s both inviting and chic. Wood lanterns are a fantastic way to add warmth and character to any wedding setup. Hurricane glass chimneys There’s something so elegant about candlelight, and hurricane glass chimneys are the perfect way to showcase it while keeping flames protected from wind or curious guests. These timeless glass pieces are a favorite for couples who want to infuse their wedding with a touch of sophistication. Whether used as part of a centerpiece or scattered throughout the venue for ambient lighting, hurricane chimneys are both functional and beautiful. With their simple yet classic design, they pair seamlessly with almost any wedding style. Having a hard time choosing real or faux candles? These lush, versatile accents are being used everywhere — as table runners, draped over archways, or intertwined with fairy lights for a magical effect. • Our Event Rentals Showroom Reveal

How about that chandelier bathroom? Our Event Rentals Showroom Reveal Our showroom was intended to display and "show off" our vast inventory...aptly named, right? We needed it to be large, open and have adequate lighting. We intentionally added LED lights that are adjustable. Need a warmer light? All you have to do it choose that setting. There are 5 different light settings. They are the same ones we put in our basement showroom and I like them so much that we bought the same ones for the new showroom. We'll talk about the lighting in the bathroom in a minute... The next design aspect was the color. We got many compliments on the colors - especially the bathroom color. For the showroom, I wanted a neutral color that would help highlight the many different types of décor we rent. I didn't want the showroom color to overpower the décor, but meld well with anything we chose to put out. So, I decided on a beige color. Then I thought - why not get the color of burlap - as a shoutout to our name? I chose the color 'Ball of Twine' from Dutch Boy and I think it is perfect! It is neutral enough to complement all of my décor but provides a touch of color to the walls. The bathroom needed to be unique. I knew I was putting a chandelier in there and I wanted a wall color that just made it pop. I chose the color 'Rainwash', also from Dutch Boy. It's the perfect dusty shade of blue/green. I love it!! And, we received many compliments on it from attendees of our Open House. The next design aspect was the flooring. I wish the budget would have allowed for luxury vinyl floors, but unfortunately, it didn't. I knew the floors would be getting a lot of traffic, so they needed to be easy to clean. And, I also knew that I was going to put down large floor rugs too. So, we opted to just seal the concrete floors. I was pleasantly surprised with how much I loved this! The different shades and patterns on the concrete really came out once the sealer was put down. The hardest part about sealing them was the prep! I had to make sure they were very clean to start with. This meant vacuuming and mopping them several times (and banning Bella the dog from entering in the meantime🐕 ). Once they dried, I put on my lovely floor duster socks that my daughter got me (thanks Madison!) ;because, even the dust or sweat on your socks can affect the finish. I put on two coats of the Dutch Boy Concrete Sealer with a paint roller and long extension pole. It dries to the touch within a few hours and you can walk on it the next day. I think the floors turned out amazing! With the walls and floors done, it was time to do what I call "put the pretty on it". Many of you commented on my social media post about what chandelier I should choose. I bet you didn't realize it would be going in the bathroom though, did you? So, there is a whole story behind this chandelier that I'm going t share with all of you. When I was a little girl, my sister and I shared a bedroom. When my parents were building the addition that would some-day house our new bedroom, they asked what type of light we wanted. Well, being a young girl naïve to the costs and honestly, practicality of things, I said I wanted a chandelier. I mean, if you're giving me a choice...that was it! My parents laughed and said "Oh Dawn, we aren't putting a chandelier in your bedroom". So, we got the standard flush mount ceiling fixture (see, I've learned a thing or two about light fixtures since then) that most 1970s bedrooms had at the time. Boring...but practical and it met the needs and budget. Well, now I had the opportunity to finally get a chandelier. So, get a chandelier I did. And what a thing of beauty it is! I just love the way the light reflects off the walls. 💕 Here is a picture of the showroom space right before our Open House. Thanks to everyone that came out to our Open House and thank you to all of those who have followed our journey virtually. We love and appreciate you! • Candlelight Dilemma: Real vs. Faux Candles for Your Dream Wedding

Illuminating the Pros and Cons for Central Illinois Brides What is more romantic than the glow of real candlelight? Before you get carried away with visions of flickering flames, make sure you keep these things in mind when choosing between real and faux (battery-operated) candles for your big day . Venue Requirements: The First Flame to Consider Before you start imagining your perfect candlelit reception, it's crucial to understand your venue's rules regarding open flames. Trust us, this is not a detail you want to overlook! Some venues have no restrictions, giving you free rein to create that warm, flickering atmosphere you've been dreaming of. Others might allow real candles but with a catch – they must be covered by glass chimneys. And then there are those venues that put their foot down and forbid open flames altogether. Here's a quick breakdown: No restrictions: Lucky you! Real candles are on the table (literally). Covered flames only: You can still use real candles, but they'll need to be in enclosed containers. No open flames: Time to consider your faux candle options! Pro tip: Always check with your venue before making any candle-related decisions. It's better to know upfront than to have your plans go up in smoke later (pun intended)! Budgeting for Your Glow: Real vs. Faux Candles Now, let's talk money. Because let's face it, your wedding budget is probably already stretched thin with all those other expenses. So how do real and faux candles stack up cost-wise? Real Candles: Can be cost-prohibitive, especially if you need a large number, plus they are a sunk cost - you can't reuse them or sell them following your event Buying in bulk can save some money Consider the cost of holders or chimneys if required by your venue Faux Candles: Initial cost can be high, especially for high-quality, realistic options Consider renting instead of buying (hint: that's where we come in!) No need for additional accessories like holders or chimneys At Burlap and Lace, we understand that every couple wants to achieve their dream wedding look within their budget. That's why we offer rental options for faux candles. Renting can be surprisingly cost-effective, and you won't have to worry about storing or selling dozens of candles after your big day! Setting the Mood: The Ambiance Factor Let's be honest: there's something magical about real candlelight. The way it flickers, the warm glow it casts, the romantic atmosphere it creates – it's pretty hard to beat. Real Candles: Provide an authentic, warm light Create a natural, romantic ambiance Offer a subtle, pleasant scent (if scented candles are used) Faux Candles: Have come a long way in mimicking real candlelight Offer consistency in brightness and "flame" size Some options even flicker realistically While real candles have that undeniable charm, don't write off faux candles just yet. Modern LED candles can be surprisingly realistic, and they offer some unique benefits that might just win you over. Safety First: Keeping Your Celebration Worry-Free Your wedding day should be filled with joy, not stress about potential fire hazards. This is where faux candles really shine (pun intended). Real Candles: Require constant monitoring Can be a fire hazard, especially in crowded or outdoor settings May drip wax on linens or surfaces Faux Candles: Completely safe, no fire risk Can be left unattended without worry No mess, no wax drips At Burlap and Lace, we prioritize your peace of mind. Our faux candle options allow you to create that romantic atmosphere without any safety concerns, letting you focus on what really matters – celebrating your love! Longevity and Practicality: Making Your Candles Last Consider how long you need your candles to burn. A typical wedding reception can last 4-6 hours or more. How does this factor into your candle choice? Real Candles: Burn time varies depending on size and type May need to be replaced during longer events Can be affected by drafts or wind (especially outdoors) Faux Candles: Battery life often exceeds typical event duration Consistent "flame" throughout the event Not affected by environmental factors If you're planning an outdoor wedding or a particularly long celebration, faux candles might be the more practical choice. They'll keep glowing long after your last dance, without any need for replacement or relighting. Environmental Considerations: Green Weddings and Candle Choices For our eco-conscious couples (and we love you for it!), the environmental impact of your candle choice might be a consideration. Real Candles: Often made from paraffin (a petroleum by-product) Soy or beeswax options are more eco-friendly but can be pricier Create waste in the form of unused wax and packaging Faux Candles: Reusable, reducing overall waste LED bulbs are energy-efficient Battery disposal is a consideration (look for rechargeable options) At Burlap and Lace, we're committed to sustainable practices. Our rental options for faux candles help reduce waste by allowing multiple uses across different events. And, we recycle our batteries after use - making sure those batteries don't end up in landfills. The Verdict: Making Your Candle Choice So, what's the final word on real vs. faux candles? The truth is, there's no one-size-fits-all answer. It depends on your venue, your budget, your personal preferences, and the overall vision for your big day. Real candles offer unparalleled ambiance and authenticity, perfect for creating that dreamy, romantic atmosphere. Faux candles, on the other hand, provide safety, consistency, and practicality, especially for outdoor or longer events. Here at Burlap and Lace Event Rentals, we believe that every couple deserves to celebrate their love story with elegance and style, without financial stress. We offer faux candles in all sizes and shapes - from pillar candles to votives and tapers! And, should you choose to go with real candles, we have a wide selection of candle holders to meet your dream wedding vision. Remember, whether you choose the authentic flicker of real candles or the safe, consistent glow of faux ones, what matters most is the love you're celebrating. • Why Early Birds Get the Dream Wedding: The Importance of Booking Your Décor Early

Planning a wedding is an exhilarating journey filled with dreams, decisions, and deadlines. From finding the perfect dress to selecting the ideal venue, every detail contributes to creating a magical day you'll cherish forever. One critical component that can make or break your wedding ambiance is your décor. Whether you're envisioning a rustic outdoor celebration, an elegant ballroom affair, or a whimsical garden party, your wedding décor sets the tone for your big day. That's why securing your décor rentals early is essential—and here's why. Ensure the Selection You Want Wedding décor trends can change quickly, and popular pieces—like specialty table settings, statement backdrops, or unique furniture—are often in high demand. If you have your heart set on specific items, waiting too long can mean they're unavailable by the time you book. For example, if you're planning a cottagecore wedding, those trendy antique couches or shabby chic door backdrops might already be reserved by another couple with a similar vision. At Burlap and Lace Event Rentals, we understand the importance of having the perfect décor to bring your wedding vision to life. Our extensive collection of unique, high-quality rental décor is designed to transform any venue into a dream setting. By booking early, you'll have first pick of our curated selection, ensuring that you can secure those must-have pieces that will make your wedding truly special. Reduce Stress and Enjoy the Planning Process Wedding planning can be overwhelming, with countless details to manage. By securing your décor rentals early, you'll have one less thing to worry about as your big day approaches. This allows you to focus on other aspects of your wedding and, more importantly, to savor the excitement of your engagement. Our team at Burlap and Lace Event Rentals is dedicated to providing a seamless rental experience without hassles. We offer professional guidance in creating cohesive décor themes, taking the guesswork out of your planning process. By booking early, you'll have ample time to work with our experts, ensuring that every detail aligns perfectly with your vision. Budget More Effectively Early booking often comes with financial benefits. Many rental companies, including Burlap and Lace Event Rentals, offer special packages for couples who secure their rentals well in advance. This can lead to significant savings, allowing you to allocate your budget more effectively across other areas of your wedding. Moreover, knowing your décor costs early in the planning process helps you better manage your overall wedding budget. You'll have a clear picture of what you're spending on décor, making it easier to make informed decisions about other expenses. Avoid Last-Minute Compromises One of the biggest risks of waiting too long to book your décor is having to compromise on your vision. As your wedding date approaches, available options may become limited, forcing you to settle for alternatives that don't quite match your original plan. By booking early, you ensure that you get exactly what you want, without having to make last-minute substitutions or compromises. Coordinate with Other Vendors More Effectively Your wedding décor doesn't exist in isolation—it needs to harmonize with other elements of your wedding, such as the flowers, lighting, and overall venue setup. By securing your décor early, you can share your choices with other vendors, allowing for better coordination and a more cohesive overall look. For instance, your florist can design arrangements that complement your chosen table settings, or your photographer can plan shots that showcase your unique backdrop. This level of coordination leads to a more polished and intentional wedding aesthetic. Peace of Mind Perhaps the most valuable benefit of booking your wedding décor early is the peace of mind it brings. Knowing that a crucial aspect of your wedding is taken care of allows you to relax and enjoy the planning process more fully. At Burlap and Lace Event Rentals, we pride ourselves on our reliable service and transparent pricing. When you book with us, you can rest assured that your décor needs are in capable hands. At Burlap and Lace Event Rentals, we're passionate about helping couples in Central Illinois create the wedding of their dreams without financial stress. • 9 Ways To Find Your Wedding Style Inspiration

If you saw my Facebook live on what to expect at your complimentary consultation, you know that I'm big on creating a 'vibe' for your big day. (If you didn't see the live, you can watch it here: LINK ). The 'vibe' is the style inspiration or type of wedding you want to have and the feeling you want your guests to walk away with. Also, read here on what to bring to your complimentary consultation with us. But, before you go all Pinterest crazy, I want to give you a bit of guidance to make sure that during your wedding planning process, you stay true to you. Many times, we are plagued with an overwhelming urge to incorporate the latest trends into our event. Here, I've compiled some basic tips to help you identify your unique style as a couple. 1. Be True to who you are as a couple Your wedding day will be the first big event that you and your future spouse host together as a couple. So, make it reflect who YOU are. Let your joint personalities shine through. If you are a fun-loving, carefree couple, then let that shine through at your event. 2. Venue As I've said in previous blog posts, the venue you choose will have a huge impact on the style of wedding you have. If you have booked a rustic wedding barn, it's going to be difficult to merge that venue with a sophisticated, elegant wedding theme. Not impossible, but certainly not easy. Your venue gives you some great 'bones' to start with, so use that as the foundation to build upon. 3. Joint Interests Do you and your fiancé have a common interest that defines who you are as a couple? Then find ways to incorporate that into your big day. Whatever it is that you spend your free time doing, consider letting it be the source of your wedding style. Do you both like music? Consider adding sheet music or musical instruments into your wedding decor. The sky is the limit! 4. Culture and Heritage Let your culture and family history guide the style of your wedding. This is especially true if your fiancé and you come from different cultures. Your wedding will be the place that brings your two families and culture together. Teach each of your families about the other's background and culture. 5. Hobbies Everyone has a hobby or something they are passionate about. Let your hobby show through in your wedding style. Do you crochet? Make some crochet doilies to display on your tables. Do you like paper art? Consider making your own invitations and wedding signage. What better way to personalize your own wedding than with your own artwork? 6. Time of the day The time of day you choose to have your wedding should also influence your vibe. Most formal weddings are later in the afternoon or early evening. An early afternoon wedding tends to be less formal. 7. Guest list The size and makeup of your guest list will also be a factor in helping you determine your wedding style. Are most of your guest family members who have wedding traditions you wouldn't think of leaving out of your special day? Or are the guests mostly close friends? That might lend itself to a more casual, personal type of vibe. 8. Formality Do you and your future spouse want this day to be ultra formal with evening gowns and tuxedos? Or, do you want a more casual feel to the day? Let your own personalities and vision for the day determine the formality of the event. Keep in mind your venue too. No one wants to wear a formal evening gown to a barn wedding. Just sayin! 9. Season The time of year you choose to have your wedding has a great influence on the style of wedding. For example, fall weddings are all the rage right now. October weddings book up faster than any other month. Fall weddings are great for jewel toned colors, fall decorations and of course, hot cider and cocoa. Let the season guide your vibe! Whatever vibe you choose for your big day, make sure it reflects YOU and who the two of you are as a couple. It's easy to get caught up in all the latest trends, but don't let that have too much influence over your decisions. Do what is right for the two of you and let your day reflect who YOU are. Now, go out and start pinning those ideas!! #weddingplanning #weddingvibe #weddingstyle #weddingdecor #weddingdecorideas #weddingdecorvibe #weddingdecorrentals

  • 4 Things To Do After You Get Engaged

You’re engaged! The question was popped, the answer was given and you toasted the event over a glass of champagne. But, now what? Where do you start? You’ve never planned a wedding before. How does this all work? Well, sit back and relax and let me lay it all out for you. Planning an event (of any kind) isn’t that difficult when you break it all down. #1 Determine Ceremony Size and Theme aka 'The Vibe' Sit down with your fiancé and determine what kind of ceremony you both want to have. Do you want a small ceremony in a barn with a gathering of your closest family and friends? Or, do you want a large church wedding followed by a reception of 250+ at the most popular event venue in town? While these questions may seem like things you can figure out along the way, everything you do after this will be based on what type and size of ceremony you have. So, while most brides want to go out right away and pick out their dream dress, please take a few minutes to talk with your fiancé about your shared vision for this day. I call this the ‘vibe’ you want to portray to your guests. Believe me, you don’t want to spend a fortune on a beautiful ball gown wedding dress if you are going to end up getting married on the beach at a destination wedding. And I can’t stress this enough – really think about what is most important to you on this day and let that guide all your other decisions. Is it having a large group of people who you love (and who love you) join you on this special day? Then focus on the big wedding that requires a big venue. Is it having the wedding at your family farm because of the sentimental value that property holds to you? Then have it there – that will save you some money that can be used elsewhere. Is it having your wedding at the hottest event venue in town? If so, plan early for this – your wedding date may very well be determined by the venue availability. And along with the ‘vibe’ try to determine a budget for your big day. Try to allocate your budget to those things that are most important to you. Most couples spend 85% of their budget on the venue and food. #2 Book your venue Now that you know what the ceremony/reception size and theme is going to be – book that venue. Venues, especially the highly sought after venues, book up fast – sometimes a few years in advance. Why? Because there are only a limited number of weekends per year. Most couples these days book their venue for at least Friday/Saturday. That only leaves 52 weekends in the year to book your event. Throw in the fact that some venue owners want a vacation and some aren't climate controlled, and the number of weekends available at that venue drop even lower. Chances are you aren’t going to get your ideal date unless you book it out a few years. One way to save money and to avoid waiting 2 years is to book during non-peek times - for example, have a week night wedding or do a micro-wedding where you only get the venue for a few hours. Talk to you venue contact about ways to save money and time. Another helpful tip to think about when booking your venue: pay attention to the details of what the venue provides for you. Do they offer complimentary linens, table service and tables/chairs (meaning that it is included in the price of your rental)? Do you have to use their in-house caterers, or can you bring in your own? Do they do set up and clean-up after the event or is that all on you? While the price of some venues may seem pretty high, when you take into consideration all the services they offer and what you may spend to go out and secure those yourself, it might well be worth the cost. And believe me, you don’t want to be spending the week before your wedding ironing linens – see my post here about that: LINK . Read here for information on how to choose a wedding venue: LINK Looking for unique venues in Bloomington-Normal? Read more here: LINK And, see my venue spotlight posts on the Orpheum in Champaign or Eastland Suites in Bloomington. #3 Say Yes to the Dress! Now that you have your venue and date all chosen, you can finally go out and try on those dresses. The time of year, the venue, and event theme will all determine what type of dress you wear. You don’t want to buy a long sleeve floor length ballgown if you are going to be getting married in a rustic barn (with no air-conditioning) in July. Be practical and think about how long you are going to be wearing that dress. Make sure it is comfortable for you and reflects who you are. And the trends in wedding gowns are shifting away from the traditional white floor length gowns. Ivory, pale pink and even black wedding gowns are starting to become more mainstream. Just like all the other decisions before this – the dress you buy will impact what type of décor you choose for your wedding. If you choose an ivory wedding dress, then ivory tablecloths might be the way to go! Now that you have your dress picked out, you can easily determine the attire for the rest of your wedding party. Wedding tip: If choosing to go the formal route, book those tuxedos as early in advance too. Plan ahead! #4 Book other complementary services such as Photographer, Florals, DJ, Officiant, Caterer and Event Rentals Ok, now on to the good stuff (in my opinion – but I might be a bit biased 😁). Now that you have the vibe, the venue and the attire all figured out, now you can go out and schedule those other complementary services – or those that complete your vision. As you meet with each of these vendors, they are all going to ask you the same thing to start – what’s your vibe or vision for your day (including your color palette), what’s your date, how many invited guests, and where is the event going to take place? Having been equipped with the knowledge I have just imparted on all of you, you are going to wow these vendors by having all the details prepared and laid out in front of them. And, don’t forget to read my blog post on what to bring to your consultation with us when you book your event decor: LINK . While this blog post was specifically written around what I ask for during our consultation, it could easily apply to any of these other vendors too. They are going to want the same details that I ask for, maybe not to the level of detail I need, but they are going to want a high-level view of the day you have planned. At least, they will if they are any good at what they do! Many couples these days feel that buying all of their decor and linens is going to be cheaper. That is not always the case. And, there comes with it the whole problem of storage and transportation of the items to the venue. Many couples set out on this path only to realize it was WAY more work than they originally envisioned. Read more about this here and why you should consider renting versus buying your linens and decor. Believe me, you'll thank me later! So, I just threw a lot of knowledge your way…in a short amount of time. Feeling overwhelmed? That is completely normal! Planning any event, especially a wedding, can feel a bit overwhelming. If you are a DIY bride wanting to do all of this on your own, realize that the key to feeling less overwhelmed is being organized. There are a lot of details to sort out and orchestrate for your big day. Read here on what to do and where to start with wedding planning. If you aren’t hiring a wedding planner or day of coordinator to help you with all of this, then be sure to download my free wedding planning checklis t. This checklist will help you to feel more organized and hopefully, less overwhelmed. • Venue Spotlight: Eastland Suites - Bloomington, IL

Eastland Suites Hotel and Conference Center is an often overlooked venue located in the heart of Bloomington's East side and offering couples options when it comes to weddings and receptions. Whether you're envisioning an intimate gathering or a grand celebration, Eastland Suites is a versatile and charming venue that has something to offer every couple. One of the standout features of Eastland Suites is its ability to host events of all sizes. Whether you're planning a small, intimate ceremony or a large reception, the venue offers several versatile event spaces that can accommodate your guest list and desired atmosphere. The main ballroom is ideal for large gatherings, with its spacious layout and modern design. The room can be easily customized to suit your wedding theme, from elegant chandeliers to personalized decor. The venue also has smaller, more intimate rooms that are perfect for rehearsal dinners or bridal showers. We recently did a setup of our backdrops (pipe and drape) and ceiling drapery for a wedding reception here. The staff was very accommodating to our needs - asking us if we needed assistance with anything. The ceiling is a drop ceiling with a crown molding around the edges making it pretty easy for us to install the ceiling draping. This space will be the buffet line until after dinner when the staff will remove the tables and it becomes a dance floor. 💃 Eastland Suites offers in-house catering, bar services, and shuttles! There is an outdoor ceremony location in the courtyard which, weather-permitting, makes a beautiful ceremony backdrop. We also installed a pipe and drape backdrop for this wedding reception. The client wanted the draping to cover the entire back wall behind the head table. I loved how the lights peeked through the black sheer draping and I'm sure it looked awesome at night with all the lights turned down low. Eastland Suites is more than just a venue; it’s also an all-in-one destination for your wedding celebration. The venue offers comfortable and spacious accommodations for you and your guests, making it convenient for everyone to stay on-site. With a range of room options, including suites for the bride and groom, Eastland Suites ensures that your entire wedding party is well taken care of. • Fall Mini Photo shoot with Nerdybird Photography

I met Natalie several years ago when the non-profit organization I volunteer for, Gibson City Restoration Association, opened up our recently purchased, former Opera House for photo shoots. Natalie was one of the talented photographers who took us up on the offer. She photographed an entire family in our vintage Opera House and the photos turned out fabulous. Fast-forward to present day and Natalie and I have partnered on several different collaborations - from open houses to Harvest Fest photo shoots. I truly believe that the best way to make it in the small business world is through relationships. And Natalie is one of the people whose relationship I value. So, when she reached out to me to have a photo shoot on our property with all proceeds going to Gibson City Restoration Association, I was giddy with excitement. Of course I was in! It was a win-win-win!! Our vision was to have the photo shoot outside with the corn field in the background. I prayed so hard in the time leading up to the photo shoot that 1) it wouldn't rain that day and 2) the corn wouldn't be harvested yet. As we all know living in Central Illinois, the farmers have to harvest when the crops are ready and the weather is good (and even sometimes when the weather isn't good and the crops aren't ready!). And for the first few days in October, the weather has been amazing and the crops were more than ready! My prayers were answered and on the day of the photo shoot, the corn was still in place and the weather was absolutely gorgeous. It was a beautiful fall day. Natalie and I brainstormed on the photo shoot setup. She wanted a nice fall setting and I wanted to highlight some of the items in my rental inventory. We chose to go with the provincial off-white brocade couch along with some fall florals and white pumpkins. The final product looked stunning. The mono-chromatic tones worked well against the natural colors of the grass, corn stalks and wood elements. And, no matter what colors her clients showed up in that day, we knew it wouldn't 'clash' with anything they were wearing. The photo shoot went extremely well. And, since we had the photographer here and the couch all set up, my husband and I couldn't pass up an opportunity to get professional photos taken for our business. They turned out amazing!! You will see these pop up soon on our feed and on our website. The cherry on top is that Natalie was able to raise over $400 for the Gibson City Restoration Association. Wow! This money will go towards the restoration of the Burwell Building including the former opera house that was once located on its second floor. Natalie told me in between photo sessions that she originally got her start in photography by taking photos of old buildings. She expanded her clients to include 'humans' and started her photography business called Nerdybird Photography . She recently started photographing weddings too! • Venue Spotlight: The Orpheum Champaign

Olivia and Nathan ~ Champaign, IL ~ September 28, 2024 - The Orpheum Have you ever been to the Orpheum in Champaign? If not, then you are missing out! It is a beautiful venue that we had the pleasure of visiting recently. When it comes to choosing the perfect venue for a wedding reception, couples are often torn between elegance and charm. The Orpheum offers a captivating blend of both, making it an ideal location for couples looking to create an unforgettable celebration. Every now and again, a couple meets with us (or in this case, her mother, grandmother and sister) and they want the full service package - delivery, setup and teardown. These are fun for us as we get to see different venues and see our products in real life! Olivia's mother, grandmother and sister reached out to us to set up a consultation for the September 28th wedding reception. This was a unique event in that the couple was planning it from out of state. Olivia's crew showed up with a list in hand, theme in mind - ready to make some decisions! I love it! I was so excited to learn they had booked the Orpheum Theater in Champaign, IL for their wedding reception. I had heard about this venue and loved the pictures I saw online, but had never seen it in person. I couldn't wait to feast my eyes on it! Originally built in 1914, the Orpheum Theater has long been a cherished part of the Champaign cultural landscape. Its rich history and stunning architecture create a magical atmosphere that instantly transports guests into a world of sophistication. When built, the Orpheum was modeled after the Opera House of Versailles. While the theater seats have been removed and a platform floor installed to allow for one flat surface from the entrance to stage, the regal elegance of the former Opera House days are still there. The balconies that housed the box seats are still there and while they have been closed off from behind, their grandeur is felt in the large auditorium. The ornate columns, gold trim and dark burgundy draping bring a very regal look to the space. Upon our arrival, the venue had the tables and mis-matched chairs already set up. All our crew needed to do was put the 'pretty' on the tables. Olivia and her crew chose ivory tablecloths, navy table runners and navy napkins for their linens. They wanted an elegant, art deco look and our crystal globe candle holders and mirror bases were the perfect decor. Our gold chargers matched the gold trim work of the Orpheum perfectly! And the water goblets gave the table a simple, yet functional look. Simple faux florals in white, ivory and blush pink topped off the tables. The colors of the venue were complemented perfectly with the design elements that Olivia's crew picked out. It all tied together seamlessly and created a very elegant look that was not overpowering. And who doesn't love the soft glow of candlelight? The venue also offers a two-story front foyer where cocktail hour can be held. The vintage chandeliers and ornate décor makes for a very cozy setting that your guests won't soon forget. They offer an outdoor courtyard space as well. If you are looking for a unique venue to host your next event, whether it's a wedding reception, class reunion, holiday party or even a business retreat, the Orpheum is one venue I would definitely suggest you look into. • What You Need to Know About Planning a Destination Wedding

NOTE: I've asked my good friend and travel advisor to write a blog about destination weddings. He has some great tips below...so continue reading! Weddings are meant to be joyful celebrations of love, usually witnessed by family and friends. They can be small and intimate or they can be large and extravagant affairs. No matter the size or style, a wedding can be quite stressful, especially as others “help” with the planning. My wife and I decided early on we would have a small wedding in September – approximately 80 people at the most. But, as our families began to “help” plan, we found our wedding moved to November and 200 guests invited. Thankfully there was an ice storm and only about 80 showed up. It may be the only time in my life I was thankful for winter weather. Many engaged couples now choose to avoid the stress of planning by instead choosing a destination wedding at an all-inclusive resort. While this can certainly make things simpler in some respects, it doesn’t eliminate all the planning or the stress. Here are some things couples should keep in mind when considering a destination wedding. Budget Some couples think a destination wedding will save them a lot of money. For many, it’s true. Weddings these days can be tens of thousands of dollars whereas a destination wedding can be much less. However, there are still expenses to consider, many that may not be anticipated. So, it’s very important to consider budget before even beginning to search for the right resort. Consider what is affordable and start from there. When considering affordability, remember there is a travel component and also a wedding component. And remember guests will also need to spend thousands of dollars to join you at your destination, so you want to keep their budgets in mind too. It’s no good to invite family and friends if many of them will be unable to attend due to the cost. Know What You’re Getting When getting married at an all-inclusive resort, usually there are two different aspects: the travel and the wedding. Many resorts have wedding departments and couples are assigned a Wedding Coordinator. But, that’s separate from the room booking. So, you need to plan for your travel (airfare, transfers, and resort accommodations), usually sold as an all-inclusive vacation package. You need to separately plan for the resort’s wedding services, which can cost thousands of dollars. Many packages included bundled services such as a specified amount of time at one of the resort’s wedding venues, an officiant, decorations, photography, and more. While the costs add up, they are still usually a lot less expensive than a traditional wedding. Just don’t make the mistake of believing your resort wedding is going to be cheap. Some couples think they will get a free vacation if they can get enough family and friends to join them for their destination wedding. While, that may happen, it’s typically when a very large group books rooms to be at the wedding, but then the increased size of the wedding adds more costs to seat all those people and feed them at the reception. Typically, a couple will earn some discounts or special amenities like a romantic dinner on the beach or chilled champagne delivered to their room. Plan for Some No-Shows When making your invitation list, include more people than needed to secure discounts or other desired benefits. First, your destination wedding may be too expensive for some family and friends. Others may be able to afford it, but may not want to spend their money to attend your wedding. Typically, we advise brides and grooms they should expect no more than two-thirds of their invitees to actually attend their wedding. And, even some of those will cancel before the wedding. A few years ago, we were invited to friends’ destination wedding, but had to cancel two weeks before departure due to our daughter’s medical emergency. Life happens, and cancellations will occur. By inviting more than you may intend, you might avoid losing discounts and benefits due to cancellations. Plan Ahead The earlier you plan, the better chance you have for getting what you want. Don’t think you can just show up to a resort and have a wedding. If you decide to marry on a specific date, you definitely need to plan early because your resort may not have available wedding slots. Choosing a high season can also make it difficult to find the capacity needed for guests or wedding slots. We recommend planning at least 9 months in advance. In October 2023, we worked with a couple for a July 5, 2024 wedding in Mexico. They wanted to marry on that specific date. By the time we booked the wedding package, there was only one venue slot left for the day. This couple was lucky that the venue they wanted was the one still available. If not they would have had to be married on the beach. Plan to Plan Don’t think that just because you are having a destination wedding that there is no planning required. The resort’s Wedding Coordinator will be in touch leading up to your arrival at the resort to plan for your wedding setup, offer photography sessions, discuss music, and plan for reception catering and drinks. It’s your wedding and you still have to make decisions for it to be a successful event. A Beach Wedding May Seem Nice, but… Everyone has seen photos and videos of a beach wedding, and they always look romantic and elegant. But, if you haven’t been to one yourself, you may not realize it’s like other visits to the beach, except you’re in formal wear. A beach wedding will mean sand in your shoes, clothing, and hair. You will be in the sun and the wind, so those beautiful wedding photos will hopefully be snapped during a break in the breeze, but before you start burning. And definitely plan ahead to know when it’s the humid season or expect to sweat through the ceremony. I saw a wedding party on an island in the Bahamas in February 2023. They all looked amazing in their suits and dresses as they walked toward the beach. Less than an hour later, they all paraded by again. Most had drooping hair and sweaty faces. Women were holding their dresses up to cool off and the men had their shirts untucked. Nearly all had removed their shoes. They looked like a hot mess, literally. Book with a Travel Advisor Of course it seems self-serving for me to write that you should work with a Travel Advisor. But, it genuinely is to your advantage. Now, I think you should especially book with our agency – now, that’s definitely self serving. You may be tempted to book directly with the resort, and many resorts will offer discounts if you do so. But, most resorts also expect you to book 10 or more rooms to earn group discounts. Travel Advisors, however, work with a variety of travel partners. We can book directly with the resorts or we can book through a number of travel partners with special agreements with better terms or additional amenities. Currently, I’m working with a wedding group headed for the Caribbean. The resort they chose offers amenities and room discounts if 10 or more rooms are booked. However, I work with a travel partner that enables the group to receive the same amenities and discounts for every six rooms booked. Also, booking directly means you are responsible for coordinating with friends and family to make sure they know when to book, how to book, what to expect price-wise, and when deposits and final payments are due. A Travel Advisor should be able to handle this for you as well as working with the resort and/or travel partners to ensure you receive your discounts and amenities. Most of All… More than anything and most important of all is to be flexible and patient. Choosing to have a destination wedding does not allow you to avoid decision making and planning, and it doesn’t eliminate all stress as you prepare for the big day. But, with an experienced Travel Advisor and a good Wedding Coordinator at a nice resort, your destination wedding will be a memorable and enjoyable experience for you and your guests. • Forest Wedding Decor Inspiration

One of the trends expected to take the wedding industry by storm in 2024 is forest weddings. A forest wedding holds the promise of an ethereal, romantic celebration enveloped in nature's beauty. Whether you're picturing a whimsical ceremony among towering oak trees or a rustic reception under a canopy of leaves, the key to your forest wedding is to embrace the natural elements and enhance them with thoughtful décor. No matter your theme or 'vibe,' here are some inspiring ideas to bring your woodland dream to life: Rustic Elegance Ceremony Arch: Craft a natural archway using branches, vines, or fallen logs adorned with ferns, wildflowers, and moss. Drape it with sheer fabric for a touch of whimsy. Seating with Character: Utilize tree stumps as natural pedestals for chairs or create a cozy lounge area with plush throws and cushions around a fire pit. Tablescapes Inspired by Nature: Dress up wooden tables with burlap runners, centerpieces made of pinecones, twigs, and mason jars filled with wildflowers, or scattered crystals and votive candles for a magical touch. Wooden Accents: Incorporate wood throughout your decor, from hand-carved signage to bark escort cards and napkin holders. Whimsical Fairytale Luminous Lighting: String fairy lights through the trees, creating a starry night atmosphere. Add lanterns, mason jars with candles, or even glow-in-the-dark elements for an enchanting ambiance. Floral Fantasy: Embrace loose, organic bouquets filled with wildflowers, ferns, and greenery. Decorate chairs with floral garlands or adorn the aisle with vibrant petals. Hanging Decorations: Suspend dreamcatchers, birdcages, or whimsical paper lanterns from the branches for a touch of whimsy. Moss Magic: Incorporate moss accents into your centerpieces, cake stands, or even create a living moss table runner for a unique touch. Modern Meets Nature Geometric Touches: Combine natural elements with clean lines and geometric shapes. Use geometric terrariums for centerpieces, metallic lanterns, or modern furniture with organic textures. Statement Blooms: Opt for bold, sculptural floral arrangements with unique greenery and pops of vibrant color. Mixed Materials: Play with textures like wood, metal, and glass to create a modern yet natural aesthetic. Sustainable Elegance: Utilize eco-friendly materials like recycled paper, bamboo, and locally sourced flowers for a wedding that's kind to the planet. Remember to embrace the season when your wedding is taking place. Let nature's bounty guide your color palette and décor choices. Use fall foliage, spring wildflowers, or summer berries to create a seasonal celebration. Even a winter wedding amongst the trees with newly fallen snow can be beautiful and photographic...just be sure to rent some outdoor heaters. Infuse your personality into the décor. Display childhood photos on tree branches, have a bonfire with s'mores, or use calligraphy on wooden signs for a personalized touch. Lighting is key! As the sun sets, create a magical ambiance with strategic lighting. Use string lights, lanterns, and candles to illuminate pathways, trees, and seating areas. With a little creativity and these inspiring ideas, your forest wedding can be a truly unforgettable celebration that embraces the magic of nature and reflects your unique love story. Reach out today for a free consultation and we can help assist you with making your forest wedding everything you've ever dreamed of!
